Would you make this your prayer before you read this devotional: “Lord, help me to hear what You have for me right now.  Help me to be teachable and to put Your lesson into practice, today.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

When you are an invited guest, what are your expectations?  Are you expecting to be honored?  Are you expecting to be the number one priority of the host/hostess?

Jesus was at a Sabbath meal as an invited guest.  He observed the other guests and how they were choosing to sit in the seat which was the place of honor.
Luke 14:7

Then Jesus told a parable, a story with a point in it… are we listening?  For what Jesus taught then is important to put into practice in our lives today.

“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him,
and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place.
‘But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you.’”
Luke 14:8-10 NASB

Our actions and attitudes will expose our inner thoughts and motives… and we will be either disgraced or honored.

Whatever you do today, take the last place and not arrogantly expect to be in the first place of honor.  True humility in action.
