Storing up treasure
Jesus talked to a “someone” in the crowd who called out about his lack of inheritance. Jesus talked about greed… and what treasure we are to store up for ourselves. Luke 12:13-21
Jesus told the crowd a parable… the story had a point, a sharp point in which we need to pay attention. Luke 12:16
16 “The land of a rich man was very productive.
17 ‘And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’
18 ‘Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
19 ‘And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.
20 ‘But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?
21 ‘So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.’”
Do you know, really know, how long you will live? I don’t how long I will live either.
Is it wise to plan for retirement? Of course it is.
Being rich toward God is very wise – for He is eternal.
My friend, your life is also eternal.
Are you storing up treasures on earth as if you will always be around to enjoy them? Your treasures here are not eternal.
~ Take it to heart ~
God and His words are eternal.
Your life is also eternal.
Choose carefully what treasure you store up while on this earth.
