Responding to godly criticism
Jesus never backed down or turned away when confronted with accusations. Jesus met opposition head on.
Jewish lawyers were interpreters of the Law. And an unnamed lawyer heard Jesus rebuking the Pharisees. The lawyer took offense, saying, “Teacher, when You say this, You insult us too.”
Luke 11:45
Jesus never batted an eye. He instantly replied, “Woe to you lawyers as well!”
Jesus immediately revealed what the lawyers did.
“Woe to you!”
You put a heavy load on people with burdens which are hard to bear.
You don’t get involved with your own interpretations for others… you put yourselves above the laws you interpret.
“Woe to you!”
In God’s wisdom, He sent prophets and apostles, and some were killed and others persecuted.
You are as guilty of shedding the blood of prophets as your fathers were. “… I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.” Luke 11:49-51
“Woe to you!”
You took away the key that would unlock understanding of the knowledge of God.
You did not use that key yourselves and you did not let others enter that locked door.
Luke 11:42
How did the religious leaders respond to Jesus’ godly criticism… the Pharisees and scribes met with other leaders and plotted against Him to try and trap Him. Luke 11:53-54
~ Take it to heart ~
How do I respond to godly rebukes and just criticism?
1- with honesty: am I at fault, am I guilty?
2- with openness: do I “see” where I need to change?
3- with repentance: do I confess true guilt to my God?
4- with obedience: do I change direction to please God my Savior?
