~ A teachable moment: Christ’s love controls us ~
NASB 2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died;
15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.”
Why, as a follower of Christ, am I controlled by the love of Christ?
Because…it is Jesus Christ Who died in my place, He took on my sins as if they were His. Christ actually, physically died. He was our substitute.
Jesus died for you and me, for everyone; so today we are not to live for ourselves. We are to live for Jesus. It is Jesus Who died and rose again on our behalf. And this is so only for those who accept Jesus as their Savior.
Such love from the living God… is hard to understand, to grasp, to get hold of, to wrap my mind around.
The Lord Jesus’ amazing, sacrificial, substitutionary love for us! Do we deserve His love? No, we don’t. Can we do anything to earn His love? Nope! His love reveals His grace – His gift to us. God’s gift is not earned or deserved, and it is not an entitlement.
This is why the love of Christ controls all followers of Christ Jesus.
When we first become a Christian, a follower of Christ, do we understand the full extent of the riches Christ has for us? We learn little by little, teaching by teaching, of the riches God has in store for us.
Accepting Jesus as our Savior is the first step of many to follow.
He teaches us over time the truths of His word and of Himself. What He did, is doing and will do for each one of us.
~ Take it to heart ~
‘Teach me, O Lord, wonderful truths You have for me –
Help me to be teachable today – no matter how old I am, or how many days I have left on this earth. I want to be controlled by the love of Christ in my thoughts, words and actions.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.’
