Jesus said to the increasing crowds who listened to Him, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a sign, and yet no sign will be given it but the sign of Jonah.

For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.”  Luke 11:29-30 NASB

Jonah is a prophet in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible.  He was swallowed by a great fish which the Lord sent.  He was in the belly of that great fish for three days and three nights.  Only after Jonah prayed (Jonah, chapter 2) did the Lord have the fish vomit Jonah out onto dry land.  Jonah was a “picture” of what Christ Jesus would do, many years later.

What did Jesus do?  He was crucified, He was buried, He was given physical life – He was resurrected from death.  So was Jonah, in a sense.

Jonah preached to the pagan Ninevites and they repented, beginning with the king!

Jesus proved Himself to be God’s Messiah when He was resurrected from the grave.

Jonah and Jesus are signs, attesting miracles, proof – that Jesus is Who He said He was… Son of God and Son of Man, Messiah, Savior, and coming King.

Do you live as if Jesus is alive, physically alive, and coming again as King?
I would have to answer that with, “Not always, my focus is too much on me and the world’s thinking.”
How do you answer?

~ Take it to heart ~

Jonah concluded his prayer from within the great fish with “Salvation is from the LORD.”

Jesus proved that salvation is in Him alone… He lived a sinless life, He died, and was buried, then He was physically resurrected to live forever, eternally.

Jesus is the proof that salvation is found only in Him.
