Unnamed, unknown men told Jesus they would follow Him, with certain conditions on their part.  How did Jesus respond to these three men?

Man #1
NASB Luke 9:57-58 “As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, ‘I will follow You wherever You go.’
58 And Jesus said to him, ‘The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.’”

Did this man, who was “on fire” to follow Jesus, did he?  Jesus told him that they would be staying at a different place – frequently.

Man #2
(NASB) Luke 9:59-60 “And He said to another, ‘Follow Me.’  But he said, ‘Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.
60 But He said to him, ‘Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.’”

Did this man follow Jesus, right then?  We don’t know if the man waited until his father died, then looked Jesus up.  Or did he do what Jesus called him to do?  “Follow Me.”  “…go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.”

Man #3
NASB Luke 9:61-62 “Another also said, ‘I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.’
62 But Jesus said to him, ‘No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’”

How did this unnamed, unknown man respond to Jesus?  We don’t know!

To follow Jesus ~ is to follow Jesus, period.
Do you desire to follow Jesus but you have “reasons” for not doing so… yet!?!
Has Jesus called you and you have put off the decision to follow Him?
Were you willing to follow Jesus… then you looked back at your old way of life… and treasured your old way of life more than following Jesus?

~ Take it to heart ~

It’s your choice… will you follow Jesus now?
Jesus will lead you when you follow Him.
