Distractions around us cause us to move from one thing to the next, sometimes in the blink of an eye.  I know that I can be in the middle of spending time with someone I really enjoy and then my phone chimes.  I have a text.  Then a phone call.  Or a notification comes up telling me that someone commented on one of my posts on my social media sites.

Distractions take our attention from what we are doing to create a new focus, interrupting what we are doing.  Distractions take us away from forming meaningful relationships or from truly being in the moment when we are with someone.

Adam and Eve knew God.
They walked with Him and talked with Him.

(NIV) Genesis 2:15-17 “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, ’You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.’”

(NIV) Genesis 3:8-10  “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ He answered, ‘I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.’”

Adam and Eve were distracted in the Garden of Eden by Satan’s temptation.  They had a great relationship going with God until that one moment in time when they were distracted and turned away, changing their relationship with God forever.

Adam and Eve spent time with God, one on one.  They knew Him and they spoke with Him.  They were building a strong relationship with God.

We need to spend time with God too.  One on one.  We need to know Him so we can cultivate that relationship we were created to have with our Creator God.

~ Take it to heart ~

The daily distractions we experience may not seem to have the same drastic results as Adam and Eve.  However, think about a time you were with God and your phone chimed with a text.

Stay in the moment.
Focus on the One you are with.
