A man in a crowd called out to Jesus, begging Him to look at his son, his only son. Luke 9:38
Why did the father want Jesus to look at his son? Because a spirit would seize the boy, throwing him into a convulsion and he would foam at the mouth. Luke 9:39
How did Jesus respond? He talked to the crowd and to His disciples… “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you?”
What did the disciples learn? Their faith needed to grow! Matthew 17:20
They also learned that no one else can heal and help. Only through Jesus and faith in His power and authority can anyone be helped and healed.
Jesus did not walk away from this son who was controlled by a demon. He told the father to bring his son. While the son was being brought to Jesus, the demon slammed the son to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. The demon’s power was no match for the son.
Jesus rebuked the demon, He spoke and that was enough! Jesus gave the healed son back to the father. It was Jesus and no one else who had the power over the demon in this situation.
The crowd was amazed!
The disciples were amazed!
All were amazed at the greatness of God!
Unknown and unnamed – father and son – both had needs, and both of them needed Jesus –
No one else could help!
