What scares you?  What fills you with fear?

In Israel, there is a real place called “the valley of the shadow of death”.  Tour busses stop on an outcropping which hides the deep valley from the tourist’s eyes.  If anyone walks out on the loose shell overhang, tour guides warn them of danger.  If the loose shell starts a person sliding, there is nothing, or no one, to stop them from falling to their death.

“the valley of the shadow of death” is a dangerous place to be.

Are you walking through the dark valley of death with a loved one?  Notice that the word “shadow” was just left out of that last question.

Death is real, it is something every person will experience.

For followers of Christ, death becomes less fearful, less scary.  Why?  Because we “fear no evil.”  God our Savior is with us in that valley of the shadow of approaching death.

Christ Jesus protects us and we are comforted.  His presence is unseen, but He is reality.  We have a living Savior.  He’s been there in the valley of the shadow of death, He’s done that when He died on the cross.  We have a resurrected, physically risen, Savior.

(NASB) Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
