Usually when the word “drought” is said or read, we think of no rain.  Lack of water.  There can be other types of drought.  The drought of despair or desperation or depression.

There was a drought in Israel in the days of Elijah.
(NASB) 1 Kings 17:1 “Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of  the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab (king of Israel), ‘As the LORD, the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.’”

During this drought the LORD protected Elijah by sending him to the brook Cherith… until the brook dried up, then the LORD sent Elijah north to the Gentile town of Zarephath where he befriended a widow and her son.  1 Kings 17:1-24

Three years pass, and the drought in Israel continues to get worse.  Water sources dry up, the dust becomes fine and sifts into the tiniest cracks.  Relentless heat of the sun dries up any moisture its rays finds.  No rain means no vegetation grows to feed livestock.

Water is a precious commodity for people as well as animals.

(NASB) 1 Kings 18:1 “Now it happened after many days that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, ‘Go, show yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the face of the earth.’”

The ever present heat of circumstances, the drought of emotional needs unmet, all take a toll.
And the LORD God had a purpose for that drought.  He was going to bring relief to the people and the animals in the days of Elijah.

What does God say in the days of your drought?
(NASB) Isaiah 55:1 “Ho!  Every one who thirsts, come to the waters…”

Jesus is the source to end your drought…
(NASB) John 7:37 “Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.’”
