Faith, Hope, Love, These Three, but the Greatest of These is Love.
“I hope I get that job!” “I hope things work out between us.” “I hope I get to go to that concert on Saturday night!” “I hope surgery goes well.” “I hope I have enough.” “I hope I can retire soon.” I have hoped for many things to happen through the years. Then, I am disappointed if it doesn’t work out or excited when something I hoped for finally went my way. That kind of hope in future events or successes is short-lived. It is based on the short-term results of my goal to be happy in this life.
God offers us a different kind of hope. One that is everlasting and one in which the foundation is for our eternal good. The world cannot make the same kind of promise that God does. It is imperfect and people or circumstances fail us at times. That is why our hope needs to be “eternity-minded”.
“Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face. Now I in know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (NIV) I Corinthians 13:12
We are blessed to be completely known by God. Because He knows us so well, He knows what is best for each one of us. He is our Hope. And, when we focus on the eternal, it puts the earthly things into perspective.
Jesus prayed for us to His Father because we are still in the world. John 17:9-11
We need to live life, work hard, support our families, make friends, be in unity with other Christians, pray, and enjoy God’s blessings. We can be in the world, but our hope doesn’t end here.
