Atonement
The Bible talks of atonement, a lot!
It is in the Old Testament – especially in the books of Exodus and Leviticus.
It is in the New Testament – throughout the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.According to Leviticus 4, when an anointed priest, the whole congregation, another leader or an individual sinned, all must offer a sacrificial animal for their sin(s).
All were to offer a perfect sacrifice, one without defect (without sin). The person bringing the sacrifice would lay their hand on the head of the sacrifice – a symbol of their sin transferred onto the sacrificial animal. It would then be killed, some of its blood would be put on the horns of the altar of burnt offering, the rest of the blood poured out at the base of the altar, the fat from the sacrificial animal would be burnt, as a peace offering to the living God.
When you and I received Jesus as our Savior – symbolically we were laying our hands on our sacrifice, the head of Jesus. This laying on of hands is a symbol of our sins transferred to Jesus. He is the perfect sacrifice, He was without sin. It was His blood poured out for you and me on the altar of the cross.
He is our peace offering to the living God.
By offering Himself as our sacrifice for our sins – Jesus became the atoning sacrifice, accepted by God in our place. Remember, our hands were laid on His head, our sins were transferred to Him. Jesus Christ is the atonement we need!
Christ Jesus fulfilled God’s requirement for my sins and yours. He is the atoning sacrifice accepted by God!
If you do not know Jesus as your Savior and Lord, accept Him right this moment. He died for you because of your sins! He loves you!
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” (NASB) Acts 4:12
It is Christ alone who atones for anyone… no other person, dead or alive; no other ‘god’ is acceptable to the living God – to atone for your sins ~ only Jesus!
There is no other who fulfills God’s requirements for forgiveness of your sins.
~ Take it to heart ~
