Thinking back over your life, follower of Christ… are your thoughts, your words, your actions different today from before you knew Jesus as your Savior?

My actions and words are changed.  Whenever I say or do something that is the same as when I did not know Christ… a question I can ask myself, how could I?

How can I act or say things which are not honoring to my God?  He saved me from my sins, He saved me from His anger against my sins through His Son’s death, burial, and resurrection!

Moses and Joshua came down from the mountaintop of Sinai… as they neared the base, they heard singing, and saw the people dancing before a gold calf.  Exodus 32:15-19

What did Moses do?  He threw down the tablets which God Himself had written His commandments to the sons of Israel.  They shattered!
He took the gold calf, burned it with fire and ground it to a powder.  Then he sprinkled all of it on water and made the sons of Israel drink the water. Exodus 32:20

Moses – righteously angry
Moses asked his brother, Aaron the priest, the man who was in charge for the past 40 days and nights, “What did this people do to you, that you brought such great sin upon them?” Exodus 32:21

Aaron – defensive
Don’t be angry with me!  You know these people and how they are prone to do evil things.  They told me to make them a ‘god’ to lead them.  They also said that they had no idea you would be gone so long, would you even be coming back down the mountain?
I told them to give me their gold earrings, so they did what I asked.  I threw the gold into the fire and “out came this calf.”
Exodus 32:22-24

What a bold faced lie!  Aaron was protecting himself and pointing his finger at the people.  Aaron, how could you?

What really happened: He took a tool and made the molten gold into a calf and told the sons of Israel, “This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”  Exodus 32:4

Aaron, you were chosen to work alongside Moses during the plagues in Egypt, you saw the power of the living God over the gods of Egypt.  You experienced first-hand God’s deliverance from the mighty Egyptian army.  Aaron, how could you?

Aaron, how could you forget God and be involved with idol worship, an idol you yourself made?  Aaron, how could you?

~ Take it to heart ~

(NASB) Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Have you reverted back to your former way of life?
Have you asked yourself, how could I?
