Giving Up on God?
Do you wait, and wait, and wait some more for God to do something? You pray, pray, pray and nothing seems to be happening. Perhaps you want to give up on God… and take matters into your own hands… don’t do it!
In the days of Moses, Aaron and the sons of Israel, about two million people, got tired of waiting on Moses to come down from Mount Sinai. After all he was gone 39 days. Enough already! He probably wasn’t coming back, and they were ready to move on. With this decision made, they needed a ‘god’ to follow. Exodus 31:1
So they asked Aaron to make them a god. He did; he asked everyone to bring the earrings they all wore… and they brought him a lot. He fashioned a wooden calf overlaid with molten gold. He even built an altar then announced, “Tomorrow we celebrate! Let’s have a party!”. Exodus 31:2-5
Have you given up on the living God to work in your life? Have you given up on God answering your prayers for circumstances or people?
God’s timing is almost never our timing. We like things to happen… yesterday!
They had their celebration. They got up early, sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar before the golden calf.
The people sat down to eat and drink. Party on!They had given up on God and His chosen leader, Moses. Aaron, Moses’ brother, “bought in” to what the people wanted. How could they? It was God who delivered the sons of Israel from slavery in Egypt. They were a special people to the living God, and they knew it!
Follower of Christ: Could the same be said of us? How can we give up on God? We have been saved by His Son, who is our Savior. We have been delivered from slavery to sin through God’s mercy and grace… and we give up on the living God?
~ Take it to heart ~
This is what Aaron and the sons of Israel should have done! This is what we are to do!
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.”
(NASB) Proverbs 3:5-7
