Seven Reasons to Observe the Sabbath
What do you do on Sundays? Or should I ask, what day of the week do you observe a Sabbath rest?
The reason Christians observe Sundays as the day of rest is because Christ was resurrected on the first day of the week!
In the book of Exodus, chapter 31 verses 12-17, the LORD gives seven reasons to observe a Sabbath rest.
Reason #1 ~ Observing a sabbath rest was a sign between the LORD and the sons of Israel.
Reason #2 ~ “… that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you.”
Sanctification is the LORD setting believers apart for Himself.
Reason #3 ~ the Sabbaths are holy to the believer.
Reason #4 ~ you are not to profane the Sabbath by working – there is death involved in disrespecting the sabbath.
Reason #5 ~ the Sabbath is holy to the LORD.
Reason #6 ~ we are to celebrate the Sabbath – it is a perpetual covenant.
Reason #7 ~ the LORD ceased from His labors after He created the heaven and the earth, He rested and was refreshed.
We too need to rest and be refreshed. And not feel guilty for resting!
Are you a workaholic? Do you constantly have your job, your responsibilities on your mind?
When do you rest from your work? What do you do “for fun” on your day of rest?
Is your spouse and family involved? This can be a special time of bonding with them.
Do you put the LORD as your top priority? Then is He followed by your spouse and family?
~ Take it to heart ~
On your day of rest, what do you need to change?
How do you honor the Sabbath?
