Prayer in Action
I am a person of action. When a friend is in need, I take meals, I call, I text encouraging Bible verses. And, I pray. For someone like me, I believed that prayer was important, but I wanted to be on the front lines, doing something, doing anything to help. Until, I found myself in a position of needing lots of prayer warriors on their knees for me before God. That was when I realized that prayer is more than important, it is essential.
Moses’ mother must have prayed and prayed and prayed for this little child she was carrying. “Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives…” “‘When you are helping the Hebrews to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; if it is a daughter, then she shall live’.”
(NIV) Exodus 1:15-16Do you wonder if she prayed for a girl? I do. However, God in his divine providence chose to send her a son, Moses.
When you pray, do you pray in a general sense? Or, do you pray in details? Sometimes, I don’t even know where to begin.
(NIV) Romans 8:26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
Prayer is essential.
1. God works on our behalf.
2. We offer ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable through Christ.
3. We can ask the Holy Spirit to fill us with God’s love, wisdom, peace for the day.
4. We repent through prayer.
5. We praise God through prayer.
6. We petition God through prayer.
