In Exile in the Desert
Moses was in exile for 40 years after he killed the Egyptian. He acted on impulse and had to flee Egypt. However, he was not alone. He met his wife and had a family. He had a job as a shepherd. He was living life every day; however, was he fulfilling God’s purpose and plan for his life?
Sometimes, before we can move forward into God’s ultimate plan for our life, He needs to prepare us. We need to mature in our faith and grow up in our trust in God.
And, sometimes, that process requires us to be in the desert, in exile. This is where we can fully learn to trust God completely with our lives and with His purpose for us.
The benefits of desert life:
1. We learn how to pray when we are in the desert. “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you”
(NIV) Jeremiah 29:12
2. We seek God when we are in the desert. “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” (NIV) Psalms 63:1
3. We find God when we are in the desert. “’You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart. I will be found by you’, declares the Lord…’and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.’” (NIV) Jeremiah 29:13-14
Take it to Heart
Are you in the desert right now?
While we wait on God to fulfill his purpose for our lives,
are we an active and willing participant with Him in preparing ourselves for His purpose?
