According to a dictionary, the word “consecrate” means “To dedicate to some service or goal.”

When anyone is consecrated there is a service and/or goal that is in view.  Consecration also means to be set apart for sacred service.

Moses was to consecrate Aaron as high priest and Aaron’s sons as priests.  As priests they were consecrated to minister to God Himself.  Exodus 29:1

In order to be consecrated, they needed to be washed with water and brought to the door of the tent of meeting.
After the priests were washed they put on the garments required by God to serve Him.
After this they were anointed with oil.  Exodus 29:4-7

Consecrated to serve God
You and I, as followers of Christ, are consecrated by our faith in the living Lord Jesus Christ as His servants.  This is a holy calling.  We have been given the Holy Spirit; He lives within us from the moment we receive Jesus as our Savior.

After leaving Egypt as slaves, the first high priest and priests were consecrated long ago in the wilderness.  They were consecrated or set apart to serve the living LORD God of the Holy Bible.

Follower of Christ, we too have been set apart for holy service.  We are consecrated to serve the living God.

We too have been in the wilderness, we too have been freed from slavery to sin.  We too are consecrated to serve the living God.

~ Take it to heart ~

For what have you been set apart?

First step – Clean heart
“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Second step – Assured hope
“Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.”

Third step – Joyful spirit
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.”

Fourth step – Serve God by teaching others
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You.”
(NASB) Psalm 51:10-13
