The LORD God told Moses to make a veil of blue, purple and scarlet materials, finely twisted linen.  Cherubim were to be woven into the fabric by a skilled workman, whom God would give that special talent.  Gold and silver were to be used in the hardware for the veil to be hung within the tabernacle.

It would separate two rooms.  The innermost room would be the place where the ark of the covenant with the mercy seat on top.  All were made of gold.  This is where God met with His people through the office of the high priest.
The veil would be hung from the ceiling to the floor, dividing the holy of holies from the holy place.  (Exodus 26:31)

The holy of holies would contain the ark of the covenant with its mercy seat.  The other room would contain a gold lampstand, a table of show bread and the altar of incense.  The veil separated these two rooms.

In the holy place, priests served every day, several times a day.
In the holy of holies, the high priest would go once a year, serving behind the veil.

The furnishings were all overlaid with gold, plus the magnificence of the veil would be a sight to behold.

The veil had a purpose.  It was not going to last forever.  Why do I say this?  Because the veil would be torn from top to bottom the moment the Lord Jesus died on the cross in ad 27-30.
The exact date is debatable and unimportant actually.

What is important are the following:
Fact: The Lord Jesus did die on a cross.

Fact: The veil was torn in two, from top to bottom when He died.

Fact: The veil was torn and opened the way for all who receive Christ Jesus as Savior to have direct access to God.

Fact: Jesus was the sacrificial Lamb; He was also the High Priest which entered behind the veil into the presence of God the Father.

Fact: The Lord Jesus was in the grave for three days.

Fact: The Lord Jesus was resurrected on the third day.

Fact: The Lord Jesus made it possible for all who receive Him as their Savior to enter into the very presence of God in heaven.

Fact: The physically alive Jesus will return to earth one day as King over all kings!

~ Take it to heart ~

The beauty of the Lord Jesus Christ: He is our sacrificial Lamb AND our High Priest… tearing the veil in two and letting us go to the mercy seat of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
