The leaders of the Israelites were to worship the LORD at a distance.  The LORD was teaching His people to value Him, to respect Him as God.  Exodus 24:1

The people listened and responded.
Moses listened to the LORD God then told the people what he heard.  How did the people respond?  “All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do!”  Exodus 24:2

The people had good intentions.
Do you respond to the LORD in the same way?  Having good intentions to do everything the LORD says to do in His holy word?  The people in the days of Moses responded by accepting and promising to obey all of the LORD’S words.

Moses wrote down the LORD’S words.
The next day, Moses built an altar at the foot of Mt. Sinai with each tribe represented by a pillar.  Twelve pillars in all.
Then burnt sacrifices and peace offerings were offered on that altar.  Moses took half the blood from the sacrifice and sprinkled it on the altar.
Then Moses read from the book of the covenant so the people could hear.

The people again responded to God’s words.
“All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”
Moses sprinkled the people with some of the blood of the sacrifice with the following words.
(NASB) Exodus 24:8 “… ‘Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.’”

This solemn ceremony, using sacrificial blood, recognized the importance of God’s words.

God’s words are not to be taken lightly.  According to God’s plan, His Son gave His life’s blood for you to receive salvation from your sins, death and Satan.

~ Take it to heart ~

The importance of God’s covenant cannot be over emphasized.
How often do you put off reading God’s true and eternal words?
How often do you read and promptly forget to do what God says to do?

God’s words are not to be taken lightly.
