To Covet means to “crave” or “desire”
To covet is to crave, to desire anything you do not have.
What does God say about coveting?
(NASB) Exodus 20:17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”Coveting begins with wanting something which belongs to another.
Focusing on what is not yours leads to doing anything to get what you so desperately crave or desire. Coveting is being greedy!
God says, Do Not Covet – period!
God says being covetous is the same as immorality and impurity!
(NASB) Ephesians 5:3 “But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints”
If you are a follower of Christ, the LORD calls you a saint!
“Listen” to these words of warning from the LORD God:
(NASB) Ephesians 5:5 “For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.”Whenever you have wrong thoughts and desires:
1 Ask God to help you re-focus.
2 Intentionally think about something which pleases God
3 Do something different as soon as possible (asap)Another step in turning from covetous thoughts – choose to be content with what you have.
Thank God for the blessings He gave you yesterday and in the past.
Thank Him for the blessings He will give you today and will give you in the future!
~ Take it to heart ~
You also can learn to be content with what you have and find contentment in your circumstances.
“… for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.”
(NASB) Philippians 4:11b
