Sunday, the first day of the week, is usually the time of worship for all followers of Christ.  Why is Sunday the day chosen?  Because the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected on the first day of the week.  Matthew 28:1-6; Mark 16:1-6; Luke 24:1-6; John 20:1-20

(NASB) Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle of your sojourner who stays with you.
11 ‘For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.”

Clearly, God says to rest on the sabbath.  Yet, what about health care workers and those who are involved in leadership in the church on Sunday mornings?

Doing God’s work, God’s way, is always the right thing to do.

Jesus and His disciples were walking through a field of grain on the Sabbath.  Some of the men picked a few grains to eat.  Critics were looking for anything to bring accusations against Jesus; they called the disciples out for “working” on the Sabbath.

Jesus immediately recounted a bit of Israel’s history.  David, King David, what did he do when he and his men were hungry and had great need of food?  David entered the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest and ate consecrated bread.  The bread was meant for only the serving priests to eat.

Then Jesus said to His detractors, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.  So, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”  Mark 2:23-28

~ Take it to heart ~

Be careful to take a needed day of rest.
Be careful and not go to extremes when observing man’s traditions and/or restrictions.

Legalism is not faith in God.  Legalism is faith in man’s moral law rather than in God Himself.

The Sabbath was made for you.
