Using the LORD’S Name Wrongly
The Ten Commandments are explicit. There are no loop holes; no “back door” to sneak out…
The following three are the first of the Ten Commandments.
#1 “You shall have no other gods before Me.”
#2 “You shall not make for yourselves an idol… You shall not worship nor serve them…”
#3 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain…”
When you watch TV shows and commercials…
When you attend a sporting event…
When you are having a conversation with someone else…
Do you “listen” to what is being said? Have you become so used to hearing the Almighty God’s name spoken that it no longer registers as sinful in your thinking? God’s name said in anger, made fun of, mocked or as an exclamation is quite common today. “OMG” is a popular phrase today.
Do you let the words against the majesty and holiness of God go without thought of what is being said?
Some commercials and emoticons on cell phones mock God’s name.
I don’t know about you, but I do not want to ever become so in tune with the world around me that I do not recognize God’s name being taken in vain.Do you cringe when you hear “OMG”? Pray for that person to know God for themselves. To know His love, His forgiveness, His justness in all things, even His name being trampled on and drug through the mud.
What does God Himself say about His name?
(NASB) Exodus 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.”Are you a follower of Christ and, yet, you misuse or abuse His name in your home or in the workplace?
~ Take it to heart ~
