Your Words Which Divide
What drives you to cry out in grief, sorrow, anger, and/or frustration?
What do your words do in others lives? What you say impacts many people. Whether you speak in the privacy of your home, or in public places, or through social media… your words will be heard by many.
Words can be divisive, creating division and discord. They can tear down, tearing apart relationships. Words of anger can be storms which have far reaching and damaging results, like a hurricane spread over many miles.
Emotions, many times, are the engine which drives our words. Beware! Be careful what you say when you are in the middle of grief, sorrow, anger, or frustration.
Venting is NOT the way to express yourself; especially publically. Your words can lead you to give greater harm, experience greater anger, and suffer greater grief.
(NIV) James 3:3-6 “When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”
~ Take it to heart ~
Follower of Christ, the following can be used as your prayer…
“Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD;
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
4Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil,
To take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers;
Let me not eat of their delicacies.”
(NIV) Psalm 141:3
