Get Rid of the Old ~ Put on the New
Unleavened = Without Yeast
God’s word OFTEN uses “leaven” as a symbol for sin. He instituted a Feast of Unleavened Bread following the special day of Passover. Again, the LORD uses “pictures” to illustrate His truth, His teaching. The Israelites or Hebrews were to get rid of all the yeast or leaven in their homes for the Feast of Unleavened Bread. They would celebrate this Feast for seven days. Exodus 12:14-20
As followers of Christ, we are to turn from sins, getting rid of the leaven (sin) in our lives. Jesus paid the price for your sins and mine; when we have faith in Him He saves us, so He is our Savior. We are to consciously choose not to live as we once did before we asked Jesus to be our Savior.
(NASB) Ephesians 4:17 “So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind”
How are we to live, “to walk?”
(NASB) Ephesians 4:20-24 “But you did not learn Christ in this way,
21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,
22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”The Holy Bible teaches us to know that Christ speaks truth. We are not to continue in our old lifestyle like we did when we did not know Jesus. Oh, perhaps we knew about Jesus, but we didn’t know Him as Savior and Lord, but now we do, if we are followers of Christ.
The Lord has given all believers in Jesus, His Holy Spirit the moment we asked Jesus to be our Savior… our mind is to have new thoughts.
The LORD God is creating within us a new life, a new self!
The yeast of sin is to be thrown out. And the new life we begin is to be with Jesus – our Savior, our Lord, our Shepherd, our Redeemer.
We are to choose a new lifestyle, one in line with God’s thoughts of who we are becoming.
Just think, new thoughts to think, a new life to live, new habits to form!
Get rid of the old and put on the new!
~ Take it to heart ~
The LORD God says in Isaiah 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
9 ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”
