God’s Name: “I AM”
The LORD told Moses he was being sent to deliver the sons of Israel from slavery in Egypt.
Moses asked the Lord an honest question. Have you ever asked the Lord an honest question about His name? Moses did.
An honest question
(NASB) Exodus 3:13 “Then Moses said to God, ‘Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?”
Do you know the name which God wants to be known?
Your name is important to you. Your name and personality is known by those who are acquainted with you. God’s name is important for it reveals Who He is. He is available to all people… however, there are many who could care less.
What about you, could you care less about God and His name?
Moses honestly wanted to know God’s name in order to introduce himself to the slaves in Egypt.
God’s reply
(NASB) Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’; and He said, ‘thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
“I AM” – is always in the present.
“I AM” – was also in the past.
“I AM” – will be the same in the future.
“I AM” – is eternal.
“I AM” – is the living God.
