What is the “next thing” you are to do, right now?  Is it answering the ringing phone or making a call?  Is it mowing the lawn or going down the hall to speak to a co-worker?  What is the next thing you should do?

Moses fled for his life and when he reached a well in the land of Midian, he sat down.  Shepherds were bringing their flocks to water.  Seven daughters of a priest in Midian brought their father’s flock to be watered and were pushed out of the way by other shepherds.

Moses observed this and intervened in behalf of the sisters.
Moses then did the next thing when he filled the troughs with water for the flock.

They went home and told their father of the Egyptian who had helped them.  “Did you invite him to have something to eat?”  Well, no, they hadn’t done that.

Doing the next thing, Moses was found and invited in for a meal, he accepted.  (Exodus 2:16-20)

Moses did the next thing, it was logical.  Your next step may be logical.  You may know what to do from a Biblical perspective, even in everyday life.

Doing the will of God, in God’s timing, may seem uneventful.  But God is faithful, He is available and He is teaching us as we do the next logical thing.  God is glorified when we do the next thing in obedience to His word.

~ Take it to heart ~

Keeping your household books, taking out the trash, making your bed, we are to keep doing the next thing, no matter how trivial.

Doing the next thing is putting God first, then family and then a job.

What is your “next thing to do?”
