(NASB) Psalm 23:4 “… Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

A rod and a staff give comfort?

A Shepherd’s Rod
A rod protects when in the hands of the Shepherd.  Protection from my enemies and the rod is also used as a way to count me.  One sheep at a time goes under the rod into the sheepfold at night… I am counted and known by my Shepherd.

I am important to my Shepherd and He calls me by my name.

A Shepherd’s Staff
Moses took the staff of God in his hand as he went to Egypt to deliver the Israelites from slavery.  Exodus 4:20

The staff of God was used by God to powerfully perform miracles in the land of Egypt.

Moses was chosen by God to lead this people out of slavery to the Promised Land.

Moses took up the staff of God and went forward into an unknown future.

My Shepherd Savior uses His rod, His staff as I walk into an unknown tomorrow.

His presence is with me.
His power is for me.
His peace is a fact.

~ Take it to heart ~

God’s Rod
I am counted as one of the Shepherd’s sheep, are you?

God’s Staff
I have the presence, the power and the peace of God in my life, do you?
