A couple I know experienced this very Psalm in the past several weeks.

For two to three weeks before the death of her husband, they quoted Psalm 23 together every day.

The day came when the husband was unable to speak and seemingly unresponsive.  His wife then daily repeated Psalm 23 to him – aloud.

She stated this time with her husband was meaningful and fulfilling, the promise of the restoration of mind, emotions and will became a reality.

They both experienced a true deeper meaning of the Psalm many of us memorized as children.

Jesus ~ is Emmanuel – God with us.
Jesus ~ is my Shepherd.
Jesus ~ is my Savior.

(NASB) Psalm 23:1-6
“THE LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
