Jacob continued to make prophetic statements to each of his twelve sons.

(NASB) Genesis 49:14-15 “Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying down between the sheepfolds,
15 ‘When he saw that a resting place was good
And the land was pleasant,
He bowed his shoulder to bear burdens,
And became a slave at forced labor.”

Donkeys, in Old Testament times, were ridden by kings.  Being compared to a donkey was not a “downer” or an innuendo of derision.  Donkeys are a strong animal and can bear heavy burdens.

The tribe of Issachar was strong and not afraid of carrying heavy burdens.

In the later history of Israel, many men who were valiant in battle came from this tribe.  This tribe was made up of strong, hard-working people.  They were content with their role in life.

Could this be your prayer?
“Oh Lord, make me cheerfully content as I take up heavy and hard things in my life.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

~ Take it to heart ~

Are you hard-working and content?
If so, you are to be commended.  You are encouraged to continue carrying your burdens with contentment, because all followers of Christ are yoked with Him!

(NASB) Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
29 ‘Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 ‘For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Followers of Christ – we are yoked with our Savior, Jesus!
