Jacob gave his son, Judah, an extended prophecy.  It points to both the nation of Israel and to Messiah.

(NASB) Genesis 49:9 “Judah is a lion’s whelp;
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He couches, he lies down as a lion,
And as a lion, who dares rouse him up?”

A lion is feared, and rightfully so.  They are strong and powerful.  They do not fear other animals and when confronted, they win.
Who dares to rouse a lion?

The nation of Israel is pictured as a lion and this same nation is a “picture” or “type” of Messiah… the Lord Jesus Christ.

Messiah is called “the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah” in Revelation 5:5.

It is wise and right to fear Jesus.  He has the power to give life and to judge the guilty.

He fears – no one!  He fears – nothing!  Who dares to confront Christ Jesus?  Who dares to “rouse Him up?”

Even the devil, or Satan, did not confront Jesus in the wilderness after His baptism.  Satan used subtle temptations.  He connived to trip Jesus up.  That didn’t happen!
(Matthew 3:13-17 and Matthew 4:1-11)

~ Take it to heart ~

Don’t mess with Messiah!

Bow down before Messiah Jesus in adoration and praise.  Bow before Him with thanksgiving.

Jesus is Savior and Redeemer – only through faith in Him can anyone be saved from His judgment on our sins.

He is the Lion of Judah – do not rouse Him.
