Observing Customs of Other Cultures
Followers of Christ – when we travel or live among people of other cultures we are to give respect to their customs.
Arrogance is assuming “our” customs are better. Are they?
Joseph, second in command to Pharaoh, respectfully observed at least one Egyptian custom. What was it?
(NASB) Genesis 43:32 “So they served him (Joseph) by himself, and them (Joseph’s eleven brothers) by themselves, and the Egyptians who ate with him by themselves, because the Egyptians could not eat bread with the Hebrews, for that is loathsome to the Egyptians.”
What custom(s) do you need to observe, giving respect to someone of a different culture?
We are to use Godly wisdom and prudence and discretion toward those without Christ in their lives.
We are to make use of the time and opportunities we have with them.
Our words are to be gracious, pleasant and attractive to others, not turning others “off” by our attitude or even our tone of voice.
If another has a question for you, be ready to give an answer pleasing to the living God.
~ Take it to heart ~
(NASB) Colossians 4:5-6 “Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.
6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.”
