Potiphar bought Joseph as his slave.  Potiphar came to value Joseph and his diligence in carrying out the responsibilities given to him.  Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his household and fields.  He had great confidence and trust in Joseph.  He also recognized that Joseph’s God prospered all Joseph did.  (Genesis 39:1-6)

This same Potiphar imprisoned Joseph.  His wife falsely accused Joseph.  Potiphar, the captain of Pharaoh’s bodyguard, had no choice but to confine Joseph.  He imprisoned Joseph in the jail he was in charge of, the Pharaoh’s prison.  (Genesis 39:6-23)

Time passed; then one day two men were sent to jail by Pharaoh: his chief cupbearer and the chief baker.  (Genesis 40:1-3)

(NASB) Genesis 40:4 “The captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he took care of them; and they were in confinement for some time.”

The title of this lesson is “Who was Potiphar?”
Who are you?  Do you have great responsibilities?  Do you have insights into diligent employees?
Do you recognize God’s hand on anyone with whom you work?

~ Take it to heart ~

Who was Joseph?  He was a slave.  He was a prisoner.  And in both instances his confidence was in the living God.

Who are you?  Is your confidence in the living God?  Are you given great responsibilities?  Do you recognize that God is prospering whatever you do?
