Godly Responses in Ungodly Circumstances
How do you respond to ungodly attacks? What need’s to be done before those attacks come?
Joseph is an example of a man who gave godly responses in his ungodly circumstances. Before those unexpected attacks he had trust and faith in his God, the living God of the Holy Bible.
Joseph was a slave who was held in high esteem by his Egyptian master, Potiphar. Joseph was promoted to be in charge over his master’s house and fields. (Genesis 39:2-6)
Joseph matured physically, from a seventeen year old into a handsome man. He also matured in his faith in the living God. We know this to be true from his decisions, words and actions.
Joseph’s Decision
(NASB) Genesis 39:6-8 “… Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance.
7 It came about after these events that his master’s wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, ‘Lie with me.’
8 But he refused…”
Ethical and godly conduct is a choice in any situation. For the follower of Christ, it is important and necessary. Our decisions are to be based on the spiritual truths of God.
Joseph’s Words
(NASB) Genesis 39:8-9 “But he refused and said to his master’s wife, ‘Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge.
9 ‘There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?”
Our words reveal either our lack of faith in God or that our faith is in God. We are not to sin against God in our words or actions.
Joseph’s Actions
Day after day, his master’s wife spoke to Joseph. And day after day, Joseph refused her advances… he did not listen to her. One day, no other man was in the house and she caught him by his cloak. What did he do? He ran out of the house leaving his cloak behind, clutched in her hand. (Genesis 39:10-12)
Joseph gave godly responses in an ungodly circumstance.
Actions reveal decisive godly responses to temptations – no matter the temptation.
~ Take it to heart ~
No matter the circumstances or the ungodly words and actions of others – trust God and choose godly responses.
