The Lord God got Jacob’s attention through a dream.  His life to this point had not included God in a personal way.  God used the dream to reveal Himself in a marvelous and loving way to Jacob.

(NASB) Genesis 28:12 “He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.”

A ladder, a looooong ladder, was set on earth and it reached into heaven.  Angels, beginning from the earth were going up the rungs into heaven.  Then the angels were returning from heaven and coming back down the ladder to earth.

It has been said that this represents prayers, your prayers going up into heaven and the answers are coming from heaven back to you.

(NASB) Genesis 28:13 “And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, ‘I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac… ”

Behold!  Look!  The Lord God Himself stood at the top of the ladder in Jacob’s dream.  He introduced Himself to Jacob.  This was a personal encounter between the living God and Jacob.

Jacob heard about God from his parents – but that was all he knew about God.

Another person telling you about God is not the same as you having a personal encounter with Him yourself.

It is not someone else’s faith on which you are to rely.  It is your own faith in the living God that matters.  It is your own encounter and that happens when you recognize your need to trust God for yourself.  To believe God’s words are for you!

Behold!  The same God Who revealed Himself to Jacob wants to reveal Himself to you… He wants a personal encounter — with you!
Jesus calls out to you:

(NASB) John 14:6 “… ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”

Receiving Christ Jesus as your Savior is essential –
Have you had that personal encounter with the living God?
Who do you know that needs this information?
