Integrity and trustworthiness is earned.  Being a faithful servant is a conscious choice … in the little things, as well as the big things in life.

Our reputation is earned by our actions, words and motives.

Abraham’s servant earned his master’s respect.   He was given responsibilities over all that Abraham owned.  (Genesis 24:1-2)

Abraham gave his most valued and trusted employee the great responsibility of finding a wife for Isaac, Abraham’s only God-given heir.

He gave his servant a stipulation – Don’t take a wife from the Canaanites among whom they lived – they were without God in their lives.  Isaac’s wife was to be found from among Abraham’s relatives in the “land of my birth.”  (Genesis 24:3-4)

His servant asked a well-thought out question.
(NASB) Genesis 24:5 “… ‘Suppose the woman is not willing to follow me to this land; should I take your son back to the land from where you came?’”

Abraham was quick to say, “No!”  (Genesis 24:6)

He went on to tell his servant, (NASB) Genesis 24:7 “The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and who swore to me, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give this land.’  He will send His angel before you, and you will take a wife for my son from there.”

Then Abraham said that if the woman was unwilling to come back to become Isaac’s wife, the servant was released from his promise to Abraham.  (Genesis 24:8)

What about you, follower of Christ?  Are you a faithful servant to God your Savior, your Master?  Does He see you as honorable and trustworthy?

~ Take it to heart ~

When you stand before God Himself, will you hear Him say the following?

(NIV) Matthew 25:23 “… ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!  You have been faithful with a few things…’”
