Abraham’s test… a “picture” of Messiah
Abraham’s son and only heir was named Isaac.
God’s only begotten Son is named Jesus Christ.
God told Abraham to offer his son as a burnt offering.
God offered His only Son on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for sins. Jesus died in our place for my sins and yours.
God gave Abraham directions to the mountain of sacrifice.
That same mountain of sacrifice is where Jesus died on a cross!
Worship of the living God requires a perfect sacrifice. A blood sacrifice is required by God for sins. Jesus was without sin. Only faith in Jesus and His blood is acceptable to God for our sins to be forgiven. Jesus is the perfect sacrifice and He is accepted by God.
Isaac put up no resistance to being laid on the wood on the altar.
Isaac is a “picture” of Christ Jesus willingly going to the cross to be crucified.
Abraham had complete confidence in God to give back his son, Isaac.
God gave resurrected, physical life to His Son. We have a risen Savior whose confidence was in His Father… His name is Jesus.
Consider Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Isaac, out of love and obedience to God.
Then consider that God the Father willingly sacrificed His only begotten Son, Jesus, for you.
~ Take it to heart ~
(NASB) John 11:25 “… ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies.’”
(NASB) John 14:6 “… ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”
Messiah! Living One! Savior and Redeemer!
We have been given a “picture” of what He has done for us.
His name is Jesus!
