Bitterness can have many causes.  Bitterness causes trouble; many are defiled and contaminated.  Bitterness is resentment.  Who or what do you resent?  Whatever you resent, at that point you are bitter.

What does God say about bitterness?
(NASB) Hebrews 12:15 “See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;”

Think about this: the root of bitterness, the root of resentment causes Trouble, with a capital “T.”  Many are defiled by the root of bitterness/resentment in you and me.  That is a sobering thought.  We are responsible for defiling others with our bitterness and resentments.

God describes bitterness as a root that bears poisonous fruit and wormwood.  (Deuteronomy 29:18)

Poison results in death.  The poison of bitterness brings defilement and death.

Take it to heart ~

What is the antidote?  The grace of God: His power, His gift of life that forgives and heals – this is for anyone who turns to Him through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

(NASB) Hebrews 12:15 “See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God…”

Turn from bitterness/resentment and turn to the living God by faith in His only begotten Son.  Forgive!  Choose to love!  That is what God does for all who turn to Him.

(NASB) John 6:40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
