(NASB) Hebrews 11:33, 34 “who by faith… 34 quenched the power of fire.”

How can this be?  By faith ~ quenched the power of fire?  Impossible!
Remember: Nothing is impossible with the living God.

During the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, he ordered a huge image of gold to be set up in his kingdom; it was 90 feet tall and 9 feet wide.  By order of the king, whenever music would play, everyone was to stop and fall down in worship of this idol.

Three men, three Jewish men did not obey this command.  They worship the living God alone…no image, no idol was to be bowed down to, only God.

The circumstances: The three men were brought before the arrogant king who confronted them.  He stated, “…what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?” (Daniel 3:15)

These three men revealed their courage, bravery and commitment to God.
(NASB) Daniel 3:16-18 “Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter.
17 ‘If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18 ‘But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

By Faith ~ quenched the power of fire – three men committed to the living God by faith. Their faith was in God no matter what happened, they would worship only God.

The penalty: thrown into a blazing furnace.  And they were, fully clothed and tied up.
The king ordered the furnace to be seven times hotter than usual.  The men who threw the three men in the furnace were killed by the flames of that furnace.  (Daniel 3:19-23)

Paraphrase of Daniel 3:24-30.
Those three men were thrown into the furnace but the king saw four men walking around in those flames.  The fourth man was described by the king as, “like a son of the gods!”

What happened to the three thrown into the fire?  Nothing, absolutely nothing.  Their clothes were not damaged, the hair on their heads was not singed and they didn’t even have a smell of fire on them when the king ordered them to come out of the furnace.

The outcome:  By the order of the king, no one was to speak in opposition to the God of these three men.  He caused these three men to prosper in Babylon.

Take it to heart ~
