(NIV) Hebrews 11:11-12 “By faith Abraham, even though he was past age – and Sarah herself was barren – was enabled to become a father because he considered him (God) faithful who had made the promise.  12And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.”

Sarah was the wife of Abraham.  She no longer had the ability to conceive.  She tried to supply an heir to Abraham through her servant, Hagar, but that was not God’s will.

What are you doing to try and fulfill God’s will, your way?  Sarah did so – and failed.

(NASB) Genesis 16:1-2 “NOW SARAI, Abram’s wife had borne him no children, and she had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar.
2 So Sarai said to Abram, ‘Now behold, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children.  Please go in to my maid; perhaps I will obtain children through her.’  And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.”

(NIV) Genesis 17:19 “Then God said, ‘Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac.  I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.’”

Why did the Lord God wait until Sarah could no longer bear children to give His promise of an heir through her and Abraham?  God proved that He was the One who caused this miraculous birth.  Sarah and Abraham could not claim they had done this or that to become pregnant.  God alone claimed that responsibility, that fact for His purposes.  The Messiah would come through the lineage of Abraham and Sarah.  (Matthew 1:1-2)

The Lord God fulfilled His promise.  Isaac was conceived and born to Sarah and Abraham because nothing is impossible for God.
(NIV) Genesis 21:2-3 “Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.  3Abraham gave the name Isaac to his son Sarah bore him.”

God promised that Abraham’s descendants would be without number.  Nothing is too hard for the Lord ~ ever.  (Genesis 18:14)

Take it to heart ~

God’s ways are beyond your ability to fulfill His will for you.  But nothing is impossible for God to fulfill His will for you.  Nothing!

(NIV) Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord.
9‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’”

Remember:
(NASB) Luke 1:37 “…nothing is impossible with God.”
