When a light is behind an object it casts or throws a shadow.  The shadow reveals that something is there…it does not reveal color or sound or the details of shape…it vaguely reveals…something.  That is what the Law of Moses did (and does).  The Law does not reveal the details of the real thing God has for us in Christ Jesus.

The Law gives us the idea that there is something greater, something more solid, more beautiful, more majestic which is waiting for us.

(NIV) Hebrews 10:1 “THE LAW is only a shadow of the good things that are coming – not the reality themselves.”

What the Law cannot do:
1 It cannot make you perfect, even if you sacrifice repeatedly. (Hebrews 10:1)
2 It cannot cleanse your conscience from your sins. (Hebrews 10:2)
3 It is impossible for sacrificial bulls and goats to take away your sins. (Hebrews 10:4)

What the Law does do:
1 It reminds us of our sins. (Hebrews 10:3)
2 It reminds us of the need of a blood sacrifice for our sins.

What Jesus Christ did:
1 Jesus Christ became fully Man to do the will of God the Father and fulfill prophecy. (Hebrews 10:5-7)

2 Jesus Christ came and He took away the first system of dealing with sins through sacrificial animals. He established the second and permanent sacrifice for your sins when He offered Himself as the Lamb of God. (Hebrews 10:8-9)

3 Jesus Christ offered His physical body so you can be made holy and set apart by God.
(Hebrews 10:10)

4 Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself one time – for all sins. (Hebrews 10:10)

Jesus Christ is the reality…
The Law can only cast a shadow of the reality of Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ – He is the reality we need in our lives…every day!
