The Levitical priesthood was from the priestly line of the tribe of Levi.  There was a change in the priesthood, once Jesus died and rose again; the change was from the Levitical priesthood to an eternal priesthood.  With the change came the needed change in the Law.

The tribe of Judah is now the designated source of the High Priest ~ Jesus; and He is descended through the tribe of Judah.
(Matthew 1:3, 16; Luke 3:23, 33; Hebrews 7:11-14)

Melchizedek was a king and a priest, but not of the Jewish nation.  He is a “picture” of the High Priest appointed and called by God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Melchizedek: there is not a record of his birth or death.  He is a “picture” of the eternal qualities of God’s chosen High Priest; the Lord Jesus Who has the power of an indestructible life. (Hebrews 7:15-16)

The Lord God has declared Jesus “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
(NIV Hebrews 7:17)

Jesus is the High Priest forever.  Because of this Jesus became the guarantee of a better covenant.
(Hebrews 7:18-22)

Jesus, in contrast to the former priests, has a permanent priesthood.  When men were priests, they died and another took their place, not so with Jesus, the eternal Son of God, our High Priest.

How is this important for you?  Jesus is able to save you when you draw close to the living God of the Bible, choosing to have faith in Jesus as your Savior…He always lives to intercede for you!

He is innocent, undefiled, holy, without blame, without sin, set apart from sinners and exalted above the heavens.  He does not need to make daily sacrifices for His own sins, for He had none.

Jesus does not need to make daily sacrifices for your sins, or anyone else’s sins.  He did that one time on the cross outside of Jerusalem’s walls, and it is forever done.

Jesus brought Himself to the altar of the cross and gave Himself as the needed sacrifice for your sins.  Can you imagine such great love for you?
(Hebrews 7:23-27)

Jesus: Son of God; High Priest, appointed by God the Father, made perfect forever…for you!

For all followers of Christ – He is your Savior.  He is your High Priest.  Forever and ever.
