What do you believe about angels?  We can learn some things about angels as we read and study the book of Hebrews.

Did you know that God created the angels?
Did you know that God made them His messengers – to do His bidding?
Did you know that God created angels for His purpose?

(NIV) Hebrews 1:7 “In speaking of the angels he (God) says,
‘He makes his angels winds,
His servants flames of fire.’”

First, consider the word “winds” to describe His creatures.  Wind is unseen, yet we can see tree branches move and clouds scudding across the sky.  Wind is unseen, yet we can see the results of its power in the aftermath of a storm.  Wind is unseen, yet we know it can be as gentle as a breeze or as devastating as a hurricane or tornado.

Second, consider the word “flames of fire” to describe angels.  Fire, in Scripture denotes Divine judgment.  Angels execute God’s great wrath against sin – all sin.  In the Old Testament and the New, especially in the book of Revelation – we can read of God’s messengers and His servants as “flames of fire.”  Fire is brilliant in appearance – and so are angels.  Angels are described as brilliant by many prophets.

Remember: angels were created by God for His purposes.  They are mighty and powerful; yet, they are not to be worshiped.  Only the living God is to be worshiped.

What do you believe about God the Son, the uncreated only begotten Son of God?
How does Jesus Christ (Messiah) contrast with angels?

(NIV) Hebrews 1:8-9 “But about the Son he says,
‘Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
And righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
Therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.’”

Jesus has an eternal throne…for He is God ~ the deity of Christ.
In righteousness He will rule over His eternal kingdom with authority.
He loves righteousness and hates wickedness.
He is God and yet He acts in submission to His Father, God the Father.
He was anointed with the oil of joy by God the Father.
Jesus ~ the only begotten Son of God is greater than the angels of God.

Since Jesus is greater than all creation and created beings…He is to be trusted when negative thoughts bombard your mind.  He is to be trusted when you are sharply criticized.  He is to be turned to and relied upon when the darkness of depression threatens you.

Remember followers of Christ:
Jesus is your God, your Savior and your coming King!
