The Psalmist David prayed for delivery from persecution from his enemy.  We don’t know what his problem was; it may have been a physical enemy.  I believe his enemy was satanic along with depression.  Perhaps you can relate to any or all of these.

“Listen” to David’s pleading to the living God.
(NASB) Psalm 143:1 “Hear my prayer, O Lord,
Give ear to my supplications!
Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness!”

David prayed believing the living God heard him…do you pray expecting the same living God to hear you?

David understood that God alone was Good and Perfect.  David knew he was not.
(NASB) Psalm 143:2 “And do not enter into judgment with Your servant,
For in Your sight no man living is righteous.”

(NASB) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

No one is on the same level with the God of the Holy Bible.  All of us sin — we need a Savior.  His name is Jesus.

“Listen” to David as he describes his enemy and how this affects him.
(NASB) Psalm 143:3-4 “For the enemy has persecuted my soul;
He has crushed my life to the ground;
He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have long been dead.
4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me;
My heart is appalled within me.”

Your enemy is no different from David’s.  The enemy persecutes, afflicts, oppressing your mind, emotions and will.  Your enemy desires to crush your life to the ground – depression does that.

Depression makes one live in dark places.  Dark places are a prison of some kind.  In the darkness there would seem to be no hope – no hope of life or light or freedom from the enemy.

This is the reason why you need Jesus – when you are persecuted, when your enemy is oppressing you in the darkness of depression.

Jesus came to give you His light – He is ready to give life and light to anyone who turns to Him.

As the sun rises in the east and dispels the darkness of night, so Jesus shines brighter and brighter into the darkness of depression.

Jesus said, and is saying this moment, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”  (NASB John 8:12)

Jesus – turn to Him for He is the Light of life – even when you are afflicted, oppressed and depressed.  He dispels the darkest night with His light.
