Perhaps it was a crystal clear night with stars bright in the night of the Milky Way galaxy.
Some shepherds were herding their sheep, minding their own business, doing their job.

Suddenly, an angel sent from the Lord stood before them.  Light that is described as the “glory of the Lord” shone all around those bewildered shepherds.  They weren’t only bewildered, they were frightened!

(NASB) Luke 2:10-12 “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
11 for today in the city of David (that’s Bethlehem) there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ (that’s Messiah) the Lord.
12 ‘This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’”

How would the shepherds know this was true?  How would the shepherds know that they had found the right newborn baby?

They would “find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  Now that would certainly be different!  There would be no mistaking this baby.

After they were given that information ~ suddenly the sky was filled with “a multitude of the heavenly host praising God.”

The awe that must have been in the hearts of those shepherds, the praise that surrounded them ~ astounding sight, astounding sound, astounding message!

(NASB) Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

The angels left those shepherds and went into heaven.  How did the shepherds react?
(NASB) Luke 2:15 “…‘Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.’”

They did hurry to Bethlehem, right then.  They did find Mary and Joseph and a newborn baby laying in a feeding trough for animals.  Just as they had been told.  (Luke 2:16)

They did not keep this experience to themselves…they told everyone they met about those events!

Good News of great joy!  This good news is for you and me today!
Who are you telling about the birth of Jesus ~ Savior ~ Messiah?
