Paul was in Jerusalem and some Jews from Asia were there also.  Those men were antagonistic toward Paul, wherever they found him.  They saw Paul with a Gentile and assumed he had taken the Gentile into the temple, desecrating it.  Those men stirred up a crowd and incited mob action. They dragged Paul out of the temple and began beating him, intending to kill him.  A Roman commander heard of the mob and took soldiers to rescue Paul.
(Acts 21:29-32)

As you read notice the action packed words:
(NASB) Acts 21:33-36 “Then the commander came up and took hold of him, and ordered him to be bound with two chains; and he began asking who he was and what he had done.
34 But among the crowd some were shouting one thing and some another, and when he could not find out the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks.
35 When he got to the stairs, he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob;
36 for the multitude of the people kept following them, shouting, ‘Away with him!’”

The mob’s intention: to kill Paul!  God’s intention: to save Paul.  And He did by having a Roman commander protect Paul.
Some may think God doesn’t do things like that; the Roman commander was just doing his job.  True, the commander did an excellent job…but that does not mean God didn’t use that man for His purposes.

(NASB) Isaiah 55:8-11 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord,
9 ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
‘And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 ‘For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
And do not return there without watering the earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

God is greater than your circumstances.

God is greater than your thoughts and words.

God is greater than any adversaries you may have.

God is greater!
