(NASB) Acts 18:27-28 “And he (Apollos) wanted to go across to Achaia (Greece), the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed though grace,
28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.”

Apollos:
Apollos was encouraged by believers in Ephesus to follow through with his desire to go to Greece.
He was given a letter of introduction to the believers he would meet.
After he arrived, he was a great help to “those who had believed through grace.”

[What does that phrase mean?  Grace is God’s favor which no one can earn, buy, or do anything to gain.  It is impossible to deserve God’s grace.  It is through faith in Jesus Christ alone that anyone can enjoy and experience God’s grace.]

Apollos was a powerful public speaker and he refuted the Jews in public.
He demonstrated his knowledge of Scripture, using it to prove that Jesus was the Messiah.

Apollos and Paul were learned men who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and actively witnessed of Him as Messiah and Savior.
In fact, Paul mentioned Apollos in a letter he later wrote to the Corinthian church.
(NASB) 1 Corinthians 3:6 “I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.”

No matter the powerful speaking ability of Apollos or Paul, it was always God Who caused the growth of the church and the maturing of believers.
What was true in the first century is true in the 21st century.  It is God Who causes the growth of the church; it is God Who matures you and me.

We do not need to be powerful speakers like Apollos or Paul, but we can be faithful witnesses of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
