Paul and Silas: stripped of their robes, severely flogged with rods, imprisoned in stocks in the dungeon of the Philippi prison.  How did they respond to their circumstances?  They prayed to the living God, they sang hymns of praise to God!  And the other prisoners’ heard them.  (Acts 16:22-25)

What happened at midnight?  EARTHQUAKE!  The foundations of the prison and the house of the jailer were shaken.  Chains came loose from all the prisoners.  Doors flew open.  Yet, not one prisoner left.  But the jailer did not know this, he drew his sword and was about to commit suicide. Paul called out, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!”
(Acts 16:26-28)

  What else happened at midnight?  The jailer rushed to Paul and Silas and fell down before them and asked the most important question anyone can ask, “…what must I do to be saved?”  (Acts 16:29-30)
What was the surprisingly simple answer?  “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”  (NASB Acts 16:31)

What happened at midnight?  Paul and Silas spoke the word of the Lord to that jailer and his household.  The Good News is simple and straightforward.  Then at that very hour, the jailer washed the wounds of those two men, and immediately, he and his household were baptized!  Wow!  Immediate response to the Good News of belief in Jesus, immediate actions of men and women (and possibly boys and girls) – they were all baptized…at that very hour!  (Acts 16:33)

Paul and Silas were brought into the jailer’s house and given food.  Imagine with me as the two men, the jailer and all his household rejoiced greatly because they had believed in God.  (Acts 16:34)

Changed hearts, changed lives, changed thinking and changed attitudes – from unbelief to belief in the living God.  Great rejoicing happened in the middle of the night because of choosing to believe in the Lord Jesus.

What about you?  What happened at midnight in the hearts of the jailer and his household can happen at the midnight in your life.  When all seems dark and you are without hope; when you are chained in your circumstances, you also can believe in the living God by faith in the Lord Jesus.  The way to heaven is simply faith in Jesus…believe Him to be your Savior.  That is simple, it is straightforward and it is for your salvation.

(NASB) Psalm 32:7 “You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance.”

The living God wants to be your hiding place.  He desires to preserve you from all your troubles in the midnights of your life.  He will surround you with songs of His deliverance.  Why?  Because when you choose to believe in the Lord Jesus, you will be saved.

As the jailer, his household, Paul and Silas rejoiced at midnight, you also can “Be glad in the Lord and rejoice” when you have faith in Jesus as your Savior.  You are saved for all eternity.  (Psalm 32:11)
