The circumstances
Paul and Silas had been stripped of their robes, beaten with rods, their feet fastened in stocks in the dungeon of the Philippi prison.  About midnight, those two men were praying and singing songs of praise and the other prisoners heard them!  (Acts 16:23-25)

The historically, factually true account of that night
(NASB) Acts 16:26 “and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened.”

Amazing Facts
The power of our Creator God, He has the power to make the earth quake so that those prison doors were all opened!  All the prisoners’ chains were unfastened!  Yet, not one prisoner escaped!

The jailer was about to commit suicide for his life was forfeit.  Rome was in charge and if all those prisoners had escaped, the jailer’s life was lost.  (Acts 16:27)
Paul cried out to the jailer, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!”
(NASB Acts 16:28)

The jailer found out that what Paul had shouted to him was true – not one prisoner had escaped!
The jailer called for lights and rushed into that prison.  He was trembling with fear and he fell down before Paul and Silas.  After the jailer brought Paul and Silas out of prison he asked them one question.  One question only.
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  (Acts 16:29-30)

Have you ever asked that question?  “…what must I do to be saved?”
The answer to such a question is…
(NASB) Acts 16:31 “…‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.’”

Amazing fact: when anyone asks that question, the answer is the same!  Wherever you are living, the answer is the same.
(NASB) Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

(NASB) Romans 10:9-10 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.”

When you tell others of Jesus Christ, do you tell them of the simplicity of believing in Jesus?  They can choose to receive life through faith in Him.  They are then assured of eternal life with the living God.
