Jesus’ Faith ~ in His Father
Jesus’ faith was in His Father – even when His Father and God had turned away from Him. Christ Jesus took my sins and yours on Himself as He hung on the cross. His faith never wavered. He cried out “Why?”, but even with that cry He trusted His God to follow through and give Him life. (And God the Father accepted the sacrifice Jesus made of Himself, for Jesus was raised to life on the third day after His death.)
The cry of Jesus was near the end of three hours of darkness.
(NASB) Psalm 22:1 “MY GOD, my God, why have You forsaken me?”
Honesty in our prayers is essential. The living God of the Bible knows our needs, our thoughts and our motives. When we are honest with ourselves and with God – our faith is exhibited. Jesus cried out “Why?” but He never doubted His Father.
When you are hurting – be completely honest with God. You also can cry out “Why?” without wavering in your faith.
Faith also says, “Why not me?” My sister-in-law was in a difficult circumstance after her husband died. And someone said it was too bad that circumstance had to happen when she was there. And her response? “Why not me?” She knew that she was in the right place, at the right time. She was not looking for pity. She gave comfort, love and help to strengthen those involved in that painful circumstance.
Jesus was not to be pitied as He hung on the cross – for that very reason He was born in Bethlehem so He would die outside the walls of Jerusalem. He was born to save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)
Jesus’ faith was in His Father, throughout that pain-filled experience on the cross.
No matter what is going on in your life, you can ask God “Why?” And you can also come to the conclusion “Why not me?” Your faith and mine is to be in God…even in the valleys of the shadow of death. A valley is to be gone through…it does come to an end. Jesus has proven that with His suffering, death and resurrection. Your valley may be in deep shadow – place your faith in God. There is no safer place than faith in Jesus. No one can give you the comfort that faith in Jesus gives.
(NASB) Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.”
Jesus’ faith was in His Father.
